In partnership with Telstra, Hyro created a personalised, engaging mobile site for all AFL fans.
Background
The objective of the AFL mobile site was to create a visually spectacular site that would allow users to personalise information they receive each time they visit.
The site was required to offer easy navigation to access the latest live streams, news, video updates, league ladder, tipping, SMS alerts, competitions, promotions, statistics, downloads and blogs.
This site also needed to showcase sponsorship and advertising for mobile as well as support site tracking and analytics tools. Brands such as Sensis, Coca Cola Zero, NAB and Toyota have been successful sponsors on this site.
The Solution
Hyro developed leading-edge technology in developing SMS alerts, Send to a friend, Team personalisation functionality and full Omniture tracking capabilities into the AFL mobile site.
The AFL WAP site was integrated with Telstra’s Event Platform to offer subscription based content bundles including Video on Demand (VoD) and live streaming of other video such as match replays and live content.
Once built by Hyro the mobile site was transitioned to Hyro’s dedicated Managed Services team who ensured the site was available and operational thoughout the season and that it displayed correctly across all Telstra’s mobile devices.
The Outcome
- The site has become the centre piece of the BigPond Sports portal and received extensive market recognition at launch.
- High subscriber uptake was achieved.
- The deployment of these technologies and functions provided large benefits to the business and an enriched user experience.
Michael Padden, Telstra BigPond Group Manager (AFL Business Owner) said:
“Just want to pass on my congratulations to your team for the effort in launching the new AFL mobile site. It is simply the best mobile site I have seen and has been well received by the executive team here. Innovations like the integrated subscription across VoD and live, paid and free alerts interface, and send to a friend are truly unique and will help us generate value from our investment in AFL. The current service is simply, logical, fan friendly and relevant.”
